After months of drafts, rankings and projections, fantasy football managers now have decisions that actually count.
But Week 1 can also be one of the hardest weeks to predict. New offenses, new roles, injuries, changing depth charts and uncertain workloads can make what looks like an easy start/sit decision much more complicated.
Before you lock in your Week 1 lineup, here are seven things FantasyLineups.com believes every fantasy manager should check.
1. Don’t Set Your Lineup and Forget It
A player looking ready to go on Friday doesn’t guarantee the situation will look the same Sunday morning.
Practice participation, final injury designations, reports from warmups and inactive announcements can all change fantasy outlooks.
Check your lineup again before kickoff — especially if you’re relying on anyone who has been dealing with an injury.
2. Week 1 Rankings Should Be About Week 1
Season-long value and weekly fantasy value are not the same thing.
A player you drafted earlier doesn’t automatically deserve the higher spot in your Week 1 lineup.
Matchup, projected workload, game environment, injuries and expected scoring opportunities all matter.

3. Pay Attention to Vegas Odds and Game Totals
Vegas information can tell you a lot about how a game is expected to play out.
High projected totals can point toward games with more scoring opportunities. Large spreads can affect expected game scripts. Changes in a line can also be worth monitoring as Sunday approaches.
Vegas odds shouldn’t make the decision for you — but they should be part of the information you consider.
4. Don’t Assume Last Year’s Role Is This Year’s Role
Week 1 gives us our first real look at how teams plan to use their players.
New coaches, coordinators, teammates and depth-chart changes can all affect touches and targets.
This is particularly important with running backs sharing a backfield, receivers competing for targets and players entering new offensive systems.
Pay attention to opportunity — not just the name on the back of the jersey.
5. Use Projections as a Tool, Not a Guarantee
Projections can help identify differences between players that aren’t immediately obvious.
The same applies to player props.
